Egbe Degbuyi Remo, a foremost traditional age-grade association in Remoland, has appointed Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as its Matron in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the development of Remoland, Ogun State and Nigeria.

The group said the appointment was in appreciation of Dr. Madein’s visionary leadership, dedication to public service and commitment to community development, noting that her achievements have made significant contributions to both national development and the preservation of cultural values.

According to the leadership of Egbe Degbuyi Remo, the appointment marks an important milestone in the history of the association as it seeks to leverage Dr. Madein’s wealth of experience, wisdom and leadership to advance its developmental objectives.

The association expressed confidence that her role as Matron would strengthen its advisory structure and further enhance its efforts towards community development and the promotion of the aspirations of the Remo people.

Responding to the honour, Dr. Madein thanked the group for considering her worthy of the appointment and pledged her continued support for its programmes, particularly initiatives aimed at human capital development and community empowerment.

Egbe Degbuyi Remo is a respected traditional age-grade group comprising accomplished Remo indigenes at home and in the diaspora who have distinguished themselves in various professions and fields of endeavour.

The association enjoys the support of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, who serves as its Grand Patron.

The investiture ceremony for Dr. Madein as Matron is scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Royal Haven Event Centre, GRA, Sagamu, as part of activities marking the group’s 8th anniversary celebration.

The anniversary event will feature the induction of new members, presentation of awards and fundraising activities aimed at supporting the completion of a permanent clubhouse and other community intervention projects.

The appointment letter, dated March 2, 2026, was jointly signed by the Giwa of Egbe Degbuyi Remo, Gbuyi Saheed Olawale Oloyede, and the Otun Giwa and Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Gbuyi Dr. Olajuwon Ariyo Abijo.

Speaking on the association’s mission, the leadership stated that the uniqueness of Egbe Degbuyi Remo lies in its practical commitment to community development through impactful Corporate Social

Responsibility initiatives in education, healthcare and other critical sectors, while preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Remoland.

Over the years, the group’s interventions have contributed to sustainable development, improved access to healthcare and strengthened the social and cultural fabric of communities across Remoland.

Born on March 7, 1965, in Iperu-Remo, Dr. Madein obtained her Higher National Diploma in Accountancy from Ogun State Polytechnic and later earned postgraduate and master’s degrees in Business Administration from Ogun State University. She also holds a Doctor of Business Administration (Honoris Causa) and a doctoral degree in Management Finance from Walden University.

A Fellow of several professional bodies, including ACCA, ANAN and ICAN, Dr. Madein built an illustrious career spanning more than three decades in the Federal Civil Service, serving in key ministries and agencies before rising to the pinnacle of public financial administration.

Her appointment as Nigeria’s first female Accountant-General of the Federation remains a landmark achievement. During her tenure, she played key roles in strengthening financial accountability through reforms such as the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) and improved transparency in Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) processes.

Beyond public service, Dr. Madein is widely respected for her leadership, mentorship and philanthropic interventions. Through the Olowo Oloye Foundation and the Olowo Oloye ICT Centre, she has supported scholarships, ICT training programmes, women and youth empowerment initiatives, and humanitarian assistance for vulnerable groups.

Her contributions have earned her several recognitions, including the Seven Wonder Women Award by The Guardian and recognition among Africa’s 50 Power People by Exquisite Magazine in partnership with the African Women CEOs Network.

Married to Engr. Sir Adeleke Olusina Madein and blessed with four children, Dr. Madein is widely regarded as a symbol of excellence, humility and selfless service.

As Egbe Degbuyi Remo prepares to formally inaugurate her as its Matron, the honour stands as a tribute to a distinguished daughter of Remoland whose legacy continues to inspire generations and whose contributions to public service and community development remain impactful.
