Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has attributed Nigeria’s persistent challenges to poor leadership, insisting that the country’s problems are primarily caused by politicians rather than a lack of resources.

Obi made this assertion while addressing stakeholders in Ibadan, Oyo State, reflecting on the historic significance of the city, which he described as a former “city of knowledge and hope” that continues to play a vital role in Nigeria’s development journey.

Commending the developmental strides achieved in Oyo State, Obi acknowledged the state government’s role in uplifting the city, particularly under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde. He also expressed gratitude to religious leaders for their continued advocacy for good governance and moral leadership.

“As we celebrate 50 years of Oyo State, I pray that the next 50 years of this great state and city will be exemplary,” Obi said. He further prayed for divine guidance and strength for Governor Makinde and his family, commending the governor’s commitment to public service and recalling his early involvement in advisory engagements at the start of the administration.

Urging Nigerians to take leadership seriously, Obi called on citizens to pray for politicians, describing them as the major contributors to the nation’s woes. “We are the problem of Nigeria, no one else,” he stated.

According to him, Nigeria is not lacking in resources but suffers from poor governance. He appealed for prayers that leaders would be guided to deploy public funds for the common good, emphasizing that responsible governance remains the key to national development.

He concluded by blessing the people and families present, expressing hope for a better, more accountable Nigeria
