The MacGregor Family of the Ilawo Royal House has disowned a publication it described as fictitious and misleading, insisting that no member of the family authorised or endorsed the statements attributed to unnamed “family sources” in the report.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Alhaji Najeem Adesina MacGregor, the family said, “No member of the Ilawo Royal Family, whether principal or extended, authorised, made or endorsed any of the statements, claims or quotations attributed to ‘family sources’, relatives or unnamed insiders in the said publication.”

The family stressed that the narrative did not arise from any collective decision or consensus of the royal house, noting that it therefore does not reflect its position or intentions.

“The narrative did not originate from any collective family decision, briefing or consensus and does not represent the true position, values or intentions of the Ilawo Royal Family,” the statement said.

The MacGregors further alleged that the publication emanated solely from one Mutiu MacGregor, whom the family accused of acting independently and against the unity of the royal house.

According to the statement, “The content of the publication emanated solely from one Mutiu MacGregor, who has long acted independently and contrary to family unity, and who is not recognised as speaking for, representing or protecting the interests of the Ilawo Royal Family.”

The family described his actions as provocative and disruptive, adding that they were often aimed at stirring division and public controversy.

“His actions are viewed within the family as consistently provocative, disruptive and hostile to peace, often aimed at creating division, tension and unnecessary public controversy where none exists,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its commitment to harmony, the family said it remained dedicated to peace, dialogue, respect for tradition and internal dispute-resolution mechanisms.

“The MacGregor Family of the Ilawo Royal House remains committed to peace, dialogue, respect for tradition and internal dispute resolution, and rejects all attempts by any individual to drag the family name, royal institution or community into unnecessary public conflict,” it stated.

The family therefore urged the public and the media to disregard the publication entirely.

“Accordingly, the family disassociates itself completely from the publication and urges the public and the media to disregard the report in its entirety,” the statement added.

The statement was signed by Alhaji Najeem Adesina MacGregor on behalf of the entire GB MacGregor Family of the Ilawo Royal House, both at home and in the diaspora.
