2027: Adekoya Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP, Accuses Defectors of Seeking Cover

Immediate past Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adesegun Abdel-Majid Adekoya, has dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adekoya, a founding member of the PDP since 1998, told journalists at his country home in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, that despite the wave of defections ahead of the 2027 elections, he has “absolutely no intention” of leaving the opposition party.

The grassroots mobiliser, popularly called Attacker, described defection trends as largely driven by personal interest, financial desperation, and the need for political protection, rather than public service.

“Crossing to APC has never crossed my mind,” he said.
“I’m not financially desperate, and I do not need political cover, which is often the real reason many defect. Most people who switch parties do so because they have skeletons in their closets.”

Adekoya referenced recent political developments in Akwa Ibom, noting that even a sitting governor could not successfully drag the PDP structure into APC.

“When a governor defects and his own commissioners and House of Assembly members refuse to follow him, that speaks volumes,” he said.

Adekoya Criticises Ogun Govt Invitations, Alleges Poor Governance

The former lawmaker also criticised what he described as insensitive actions of the Ogun State government. He cited an instance where he received an official invitation on Eid day, which he found disrespectful.

“On a sacred day meant for giving, they brought me an invitation for June 12. Traveling to Abeokuta would cost me about ₦50,000. Why should I spend that for a government that has brought no benefit to my people?”

He lamented the state of infrastructure and education in Ogun State.

“We still have electric poles installed six years ago that have never worked. Public school children wear tattered uniforms. Many schools survive only on PTA donations. How is that acceptable?”

Adekoya, who sponsored the Teachers’ Enhancement Act during his time in the National Assembly, said the condition of public schools in the state is “disgraceful.”

On Politics, Litigation Costs, and 2027

The former lawmaker recalled spending over ₦160 million on election litigation, funds he said could have been invested in community development.

“Politics has become a financial sinkhole. If I had used that ₦160 million for projects, imagine the impact on my people.”

He expressed interest in returning to the House of Representatives to complete abandoned constituency projects, stating that the Senate “does not appeal” to him.

“I want to finish what I started—hospitals, stadiums, town halls, palaces, and other developments in Ogun Waterside and other parts of my Federal Constituency. Many federal projects were abandoned, looted, or sold off. I fought, but there was little I could do after privatization.”

Looking ahead, he said Nigerians are “tired, hungry, and disillusioned,” and that the 2027 elections will be based on individual integrity, not party labels.

“It will not be about APC or PDP—it will be about character.”

Adekoya also urged President Bola Tinubu to address what he described as the overconcentration of federal appointments in Lagos, saying it is causing discontent among Yoruba states.

‘I Will Never Betray My People’

Adekoya emphasized that public service—not personal gain—remains his motivation.

“You can be close to government without selling your soul. I have maintained my independence and I will continue to stand for what is right.”

“Let it be known: I am not joining APC, and I will never allow personal gain to override public service.”
