Lafarge Africa Plc, a member of the Huaxin Group and one of Nigeria’s leading building solutions companies, has reaffirmed its commitment to community development and quality education with the comprehensive renovation of the Christian Pelamourges Memorial Baptist Day Nursery and Primary School, Agbesi, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The project, undertaken as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, involved the remodeling of five classroom blocks; extension of the Head Teacher’s office; and construction of new dining and toilet facilities. The upgrade also included new roofing, electrical and plumbing installations, plastering, tiling, painting, and the provision of desks, chairs, library shelves, and dining furniture. A playground and football field were also installed to enhance recreational learning for pupils.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the intervention reflects the company’s belief in education as a critical tool for sustainable development.

“At Lafarge Africa, we believe that quality education is one of the most powerful tools for building the future of children,” he said. “This renovation is not only about improving physical infrastructure but also about empowering young minds and creating an environment where learning can truly thrive.”

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, commended the company for complementing the government’s education revitalisation efforts. He noted that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration is committed to rehabilitating school facilities across the state and welcomed private sector support in achieving that goal.

“We appreciate Lafarge for this global-standard facility, which aligns with the state’s rehabilitation pillars. The company has again demonstrated its commitment to giving back to its community,” he said.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Joshua Ifede, lauded Lafarge Africa for contributing to the future of Ogun children, describing the project as a model of effective corporate citizenship.

The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Ayoola Oluwaseunayo, expressed gratitude on behalf of staff and pupils, calling the intervention “a life-changing transformation.” Pupils of the school also presented a special appreciation song during the ceremony.

In further support of education in the state, Lafarge Africa donated 2,000 copies of Mathematics textbooks to aid students preparing for the Senior School Certificate Examination.

The renovation project underscores Lafarge Africa’s broader sustainability commitment to empowering communities and supporting educational development in its host areas.
