OGEPA Boss Visits 6 Ulabs Ahead of 72-hour Shutdown Order

The new General Manager, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Kehinde Bello has visited 6 Used Lead Acid Battery Recycling Facilities (ULABs), ahead of the 72hours shot down order placed on 9 facilities in Ogun State.

The shutdown order was placed by the agency, on November 24, in order to carry out health and process audit in ascertaining the battery production process and to ensure that safety of the workers, their health and that of the immediate community were not affected by lead acid.

 

The OGEPA Boss, who led the team to Ogijo and Lagos -Ibadan express way respectively, disclosed that, facilities visited were: African Non Ferrous Industry Limited, Vendanta Metal Industries Limited, Metal Manufacturing Nigerian Limited, Hanushi Manufacturing Limited, BPL Limited and GBMT.

 

During the visit, the GM inspected the battery washing process section of the facilities, while calling for reduction in human contact to lead acid.

 

“The mandate of OGEPA is to ensure a safe and healthy environment that is free from pollution, this we will ensure” Bello said.

Responding, the General Manager, BPL Limited, Mr. Ajibade Oluwabiyi appreciated the State government for its proactive move, promising his company’s total cooperation to ensure the success of the Audit process.

 

While in the line of duty during the inspection, the team sealed BS Factory, along Ogijo for operating without government approval.
