Former Vice President and a key figure of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition, Atiku Abubakar has hinted on running for presidency in 2027.

Atiku vowed to punish anybody engaged in corruption if he is elected president.

He disclosed this while addressing a group of people in Hausa language.

In a video on X, Atiku could be heard saying: “I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them and they must be punished”

Atiku, who lost in the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, is believed to have moved with his newly formed coalition to the ADC.

Though Atiku is yet to officially announce his defection from PDP to ADC, he has been a key figure in the opposition coalition.

A few days ago, the coalition announced its Interim National Chairman, David Mark, and Interim National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, among other key officers.

Meanwhile, African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State has extended an invitation to Governor Dauda Lawal to join the party.

ADC Chairman in the state, Kabiru Garba, made the invitation during a press conference in Gusau, saying the party’s doors are open to receive defectors from other parties.

“We want to extend a formal invitation to Gov. Dauda Lawal to join the party to bring more development to the state,” Garba said.

He assured that the party would give both new and old members equal treatment for effective democratic process.

Garba revealed that over 100 political actors from different parties had already joined the ADC, attributing the development to the party’s leadership qualities.

“We have received over 100 political actors from various political parties, and we are giving them orientation on the party doctrine,” he said.

The ADC chairman emphasized the importance of grassroots politics, saying: The party believes in recognizing grassroots politics because that’s the best way to reflect the mandate of the electorate,” Garba said.
