2027: Those forming coalition against Tinubu are content creators — Senate spokesman

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, has dismissed moves by some political actors to form a coalition or merger to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, describing them as content creators.

Salient Times recalls that in recent times, some political heavyweights in the opposition political parties, including a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and former Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, among others, have said that there are talks for a coalition that would defeat the ruling party in the 2027 general election.

Adaramodu, who represents the Ekiti South senatorial district in the Senate, explained that the administration of President Tinubu in almost two years has initiated programmes and policies that are having positive impacts on the citizens.

He lauded President Tinubu for his decisive economic reforms that have revitalised the country’s economy as well as his comprehensive security strategies that have addressed the root cause of insecurity in the country.

The Senate spokesman spoke while addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, on Monday, in the aftermath of the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the state to endorse the president for a second term in 2027.

According to him, the APC is not worried or disturbed about the movements of the opposition figures, describing it as a political entertainment that would not have an effect on the expected victories of President Tinubu.

Adaramodu appealed to Nigerians not to take the promoters of the coalition for 2027 seriously, but remained committed and continued their support to the administration of President Tinubu in his quest to deliver his renewed hope agenda for the country.

When asked about threats of the possible coalition, he said, “Our party, APC, is not worried. What do you expect politicians to do? They are living to play politics. So, if they are playing politics, do you want them to be clapping for the APC? No.

“They have to attack either through lies and propaganda or through unfathomable falsehoods; they are coming together to climb the mountain that they can’t get to the base.

“We are not worried, and we even expect them to come together; it is to our advantage. Go and look at the weight of those people doing the collation and the platforms; those in PDP, we don’t even know which factions they belong to; those in the Labour Party, we know it is just a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for an election; it is not organic.

“I don’t want to go into personalities, but we know that politicians always play their game, and like I always say, they are creating content, and then we should enjoy it. At this stage, there should be political entertainment for us to laugh at.

“When APC is building roads and delivering dividends of democracy to the people, then we must have some time in the evening to laugh, and we are laughing at their political entertainment called coalition or merger.”
