The All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced the expulsion of a former Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Sullivan Chime.

Also expelled is the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, a former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odo, an aide to the minister of foreign affairs, Mr. Flavour Eze, Mr. Joe Mmamel and Mr. Maduka Arum.

Similarly, the party suspended former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani and the minister of foreign affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama.

The disciplinary actions were announced on Thursday by the Enugu State Secretary of the party, Mr. Robert Ngwu.

He presented the report of a disciplinary committee.

He said the report was ratified by an enlarged State Executive Committee meeting.

The expelled and suspended party members were accused of anti-party activities.

They were alleged to have supported candidates of other political parties during the 2023 general elections.

According to Ngwu, “the 2023 General Election has come and gone. The party is conducting a post-election review to document the activities of 2023 General Elections.

“The party has identified some individuals who worked against it. Anti-party is a terminal sin against any political party, so the State Executive Committee of APC believe it is imperative to tackle this
matter head-on.

“Anti-party activities refer to actions or attitudes that go against the goals and principles of a political party. When anti-party activities occur, it can undermine the ability of the Party to fulfil its role and harm the functioning of the democratic
system.

“Anti-party activities can also lead to a loss of support from voters and donors, which can harm the Party’s ability to compete in elections and implement its policies.

“The Party reviewed various petitions and reports from the Fact-Finding Committee, and the disciplinary committee against some individuals.

“They are Sen. Ken Nnamani, Barr. Sullivan Chime, Hon. Geoffrey Onyeama, Hon. Eugene Odoh, Mr Osita Okechukwu, and others, (Ozor Joe Mmamel, Mr Maduka Arum, and Mr Flavor Eze) from their different local government areas.

“The petition bothered on anti-party activities and other offences against the APC Constitution.”

Meanwhile, the Enugu State chairman of the party, Mr Ugochukwu Agballah who was at the briefing, said the party would continue to purge itself of such members.
