• Armed officers, APC storm venue, halt pro-Tinubu rally
• Daniel, Abiodun clash escalates over 2027 Senate ticket

Ijebu-Ode erupted in tension on Wednesday as armed police operatives swooped on the residence of former Ogun State governor and senator, Gbenga Daniel, shutting down a planned political rally and sealing off the area.

Eyewitnesses described a heavy security presence around the Obanta Club axis in GRA, where roads leading to Daniel’s residence were barricaded. An Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was strategically positioned, sending a clear warning signal and triggering panic among residents.

The dramatic operation halted the “BATOGD Community Assessment and Review Tour,” a political mobilisation drive linked to the pro-Bola Ahmed Tinubu movement and Daniel’s growing influence ahead of 2027.

Supporters who had gathered for the event were turned back as security operatives took over the area.

“They blocked everywhere. Nobody was allowed in,” a source close to the camp said.

The police have yet to explain the sudden show of force.

The siege is the latest twist in the deepening political war between Daniel and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, as both camps battle for dominance in Ogun East.

Just days earlier, tempers flared within the All Progressives Congress (APC) when Daniel was dramatically barred from a crucial stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu-Ode—an incident that nearly turned violent.

Insiders say Governor Abiodun, who is eyeing the Ogun East Senate seat, has secured backing as a consensus candidate—fueling the bitter face-off.

A visibly angry Daniel had warned after being locked out of the meeting:
“Any decision taken without me will not stand.”

With both camps digging in, political observers say the battle for Ogun East is fast turning into a full-blown showdown.

As of press time, police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said he was still gathering details on the operation.
