…Party leaders describe move as unconstitutional and void
….Reaffirms loyalty to Ogun State leadership structure
…Urges members to stay united ahead of 2027 elections

The South-West leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports of the alleged suspension of the party’s Ogun State chairman, describing the move as unconstitutional, invalid and without effect.

In a statement released over the weekend, the zonal leadership under the coordination of Rahman Owokoniran said its attention was drawn to a press statement circulated by what it described as “a group of unauthorized individuals” claiming to have suspended the Ogun State party chairman.

According to the statement, the action did not follow laid-down constitutional procedures of the party and therefore cannot stand. The leadership maintained that only properly constituted organs of the party, acting in line with its constitution and with necessary approvals, can take disciplinary decisions against elected officials.

The zonal leadership stressed that any attempt by individuals or groups to unilaterally suspend a sitting state chairman without due process contravenes the party’s constitution and democratic norms.

Reaffirming its position, the South-West leadership declared that the current Ogun State leadership remains valid and duly recognized by the party structure.

The statement urged members of the public and party faithful to disregard the alleged suspension notice, insisting that it was issued by persons without the legal authority or locus to take such action on behalf of the party.

The leadership further reiterated that the ADC is built on discipline, internal democracy, and respect for institutional processes, noting that it would resist attempts by what it termed “political merchants and transactional politicians” to undermine party structures.

Party members across the South-West were urged to remain focused and committed as the party prepares its strategy towards the 2027 general elections and its national reform agenda.

The statement was signed by Babatunde Oke, National Director of Communication and Programmes of the party, who emphasized the need for unity and adherence to party constitution.

Reacting separately, the Ogun State chairman described the development as unfortunate, alleging that certain individuals were attempting to destabilize the party by misleading local government officials and coercing them into signing documents purportedly linked to the suspension move.

“It has been confirmed that Local Government Chairmen were tricked to a location for another round of parley for pecks in return only to be cohered into signing to a criminal attendance paper for stipends only to be attached to illegal suspension Letter.

He questioned the legitimacy of those behind the alleged action, describing the process as illegal, null and void, and incapable of standing constitutional or legal scrutiny.
