Presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Gbenga Hashim, has intensified consultations with key stakeholders in a renewed push to strengthen unity, discipline, and strategic leadership within the party ahead of upcoming elections.

As part of the outreach, Hashim on Tuesday night paid a solidarity visit to the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.

The meeting, which was also attended by Senator Zainab Kure, widow of the late former Niger State Governor, Abdulkadir Kure, focused on deepening cohesion within the party amid prevailing political challenges.

During the engagement, Hashim commended the Bauchi governor for what he described as a consistent commitment to multiparty democracy and resilience in defending party ideals despite political pressure. He stressed the need for reconciliation and collective responsibility among party leaders, noting that internal unity remains critical to restoring public confidence in the PDP.

He said a united party would be better positioned to offer credible leadership and effectively compete in future elections.

“Our unity is our strength. We must close ranks, rebuild trust, and present a cohesive front capable of delivering credible leadership to Nigerians,” Hashim stated.

The meeting later expanded to include the PDP Deputy National Chairman, the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, and key aides of the governor. The session ended with a symbolic group photograph, signalling solidarity and shared commitment to party stability.

In a related development, Hashim on Wednesday met with PDP Chairmanship candidates ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections scheduled for February 21.

The strategic meeting brought together the party’s State Chairman, Secretary, members of the Board of Trustees, and incumbent Area Council Chairmen.

Discussions reportedly focused on strengthening grassroots structures, improving transparency, and promoting discipline in party operations.

Addressing the candidates, Hashim highlighted collaboration, effective leadership, and grassroots mobilisation as key factors necessary for electoral success.

“The upcoming FCT Area Council elections will test our organisational strength and readiness. We must remain focused, disciplined, and united in our pursuit of service to the people,” he said.

He also reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at repositioning the PDP through reconciliation efforts, mentorship programmes, and capacity-building initiatives across all levels of the party structure.

Political observers say the series of engagements reflect Hashim’s proactive approach to party building, as he seeks to bridge internal divides, energise candidates, and consolidate party structures ahead of future local and national electoral contests.
