The governor who stated this at the Commissioning of the ultra modern lockup shops and stalls at the Akesan market, Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, maintained that the SDGs 1, 2 and 3 were put together to address poverty and make life bearable for the people.

According to the governor, market play an important rule in the economic wellbeing of any society, hence the need to collaborate with development partners to develop it.

“The ultra modern market at Iperu, which is the third projects executed in the town, fits into the Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2 and 3 which is about poverty alleviation. It will lead to zero poverty, hunger and good health”.

“Market is very important to any society. It is where traders meet to carry out their businesses. Without market, we can not sell our farm products. This Iperu market is made up 200 stores, 100 open stall and and 100 lockup shops. It has enough space for extension”, the governor noted.

He said the market has existed for long and needed reconstruction, adding that it transformation to a modern market is part of the 86 SDGS projects in the states out of which Ikenne Local Government Area has three.

Prince Abiodun called on the market men and women to make judicious use of the market by keeping it clean at all times, saying this would encourage its expansion.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals and former Deputy governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Orelope-Adefulure, in her remarks, said the market is to support trading activities of the community as part of efforts to eradicate poverty in the country.

She urged the users of the market to make the most of the facilities to support their families and ensure that their children and wards are educated to reduce poverty in the land.

She pleaded with the people to eschew violence especially at homes and always work towards things that engender happiness at homes, assuring that the SDG’S Office would continue to partner the state government to bring more projects that would bring prosperity to the people of the State.

The Alaperu of Iperu, Oba Idowu Basido, in his remarks, said that the market has been in existence for the past 100 years with no attempt by previous governments to modernize it, noting that the current state of the market would expand the economic base of the town and the state in general.
