Michael Gabriel, the 27-year-old stray bullet victim of the naira protest in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, has been discharged from the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba after 16 days.

He left for home last night, according to Segun Orisajo, Head, Public Relations & Information in a statement available to The Nation.

Gabriel was rushed to the emergency department of the hospital unconscious on Tuesday February 7, 2023 following a stray bullet that hit him when pandemonium broke out at Sapon in Abeokuta over protests against naira and petroleum scarcities.

Speaking in an interview after his discharge from the centre, Gabriel was full of thanks to God, the team of doctors, nurses and other health workers that worked round the clock to save his life, and the Medical Director, FMCA Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu for prompt mobilization and response of his personnel.

“They all worked hard to save my life. They gave me the best of care. If not for God and their quick intervention, I may not be alive today,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun and Health Commissioner, Dr Tomi Coker, for their concern, care, financial support and for visiting him on his sick bed.
