...Party Declares End to Internal Crisis

…Security Agencies Put on Alert for Exercise

The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that there will be no consensus arrangement in its forthcoming primary elections, insisting that all aspirants must participate in direct primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party leadership said the decision was part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and ensure a transparent electoral process within the party structure across the state.

The statement, signed by the Ogun State Chairman of the party, Oluwafemi Soluade, noted that preparations for the primaries had reached an advanced stage, with electoral materials already delivered to the state.

According to the party, both sensitive and non-sensitive materials required for the conduct of the exercise were already on ground, while modalities had been concluded to guarantee a smooth process in all wards and local government areas.

The ADC leadership stressed that the forthcoming exercise would be conducted in line with the constitution of the party as well as democratic best practices.

The party also moved to dismiss speculations of internal divisions within its Ogun chapter, stating that all misunderstandings and disagreements among members had been amicably resolved.

It maintained that there was no faction or dichotomy within the party, adding that members were now united and focused on building a stronger political platform ahead of the next general elections.

The statement described the development as “a new dawn” for the party in Ogun State, expressing confidence that the direct primary system would deepen participation among party members.

The party further disclosed that it was awaiting the arrival of the Electoral Committee from the party’s National Secretariat to supervise and coordinate the primaries.

ADC explained that the committee would ensure strict compliance with party guidelines and existing electoral regulations throughout the exercise.

To ensure security and maintain law and order during the primaries, the party said relevant security agencies had been notified.

Among the agencies informed, according to the statement, are the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force alongside other security bodies expected to monitor the process.

The party announced that primaries for National Assembly, House of Representatives and House of Assembly aspirants would be conducted consecutively in line with the approved timetable.

It added that the governorship primary election would hold afterwards as scheduled by the party leadership.

ADC also appealed to aspirants, party executives, delegates, youth groups, women groups and supporters across the state to conduct themselves peacefully during the exercise.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to promoting justice, fairness, credibility and genuine democratic participation, while calling on members to remain united in pursuit of what it described as a greater Ogun State.
