…Candidate Promises to Reclaim Ogun from APC
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Ladi Adebutu, has again emerged as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
Adebutu, a former member of the House of Representatives, was returned unopposed during the PDP governorship primary held at the Keshington Adebutu Hall, Abeokuta Sports Club, Abeokuta.
The exercise, which drew party faithful from the 20 local government areas of the state, was supervised by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chief Afolabi Ariyo.
Declaring the result, Ariyo said Adebutu emerged as the consensus candidate following endorsements by party members across the 236 wards in the state.
He explained that the affirmation process was conducted in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the PDP constitution, adding that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise.
Party members at the venue subsequently affirmed Adebutu’s candidacy through a voice vote.
Speaking earlier, the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Mr. Abayomi Tella, described the large turnout of members and stakeholders as evidence that the party remained strong and united in the state.
Tella commended party leaders and members for remaining steadfast despite challenges confronting the opposition party.
In his acceptance speech, Adebutu described his emergence as a significant moment for the PDP in Ogun State and expressed appreciation to God, party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
He said history had again been made with his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of a united PDP ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adebutu also thanked the party executives, stakeholders and members for unanimously presenting him as the party’s standard bearer.
The PDP candidate maintained that the party won the 2023 governorship election through the votes of the people but alleged that the mandate was lost through manipulation.
He appealed to party members to continue to embrace peaceful conduct and unity, noting that such virtues would strengthen the party ahead of the next election.
According to him, peaceful coexistence within the party remains the only path toward reclaiming Ogun State from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adebutu further stated that the collective responsibility of party members should now be focused on returning the PDP to power at Oke-Mosan in order to rescue residents from what he described as suffering and maladministration.
Also speaking at the event, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, urged PDP members in Ogun State to intensify efforts toward securing victory for Adebutu and other candidates of the party in the 2027 general elections.
Fayose stressed the need for unity, commitment and grassroots mobilisation among party members ahead of the polls.
The primary election ended peacefully amid jubilation by supporters and loyalists of the PDP candidate.
