Alhaji Abdulhameed Femi Omotayo, popularly known as OmoOwo, has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Omotayo emerged at the party’s primary election held on Wednesday at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode.

In his acceptance speech shortly after the declaration of results, the businessman and politician described his emergence as the beginning of “a new movement built around inclusive representation, accessible leadership, and renewed hope” for the people of Ogun East.

He expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates and supporters across the senatorial district for the confidence reposed in him.

“I am deeply honoured by the trust and confidence our party and our people have placed in me. I do not take this responsibility lightly. Today is not about one man. It is about the future of Ogun East. It is about building a Senatorial District where every community feels heard, respected, included, and represented,” he said.

Omotayo stated that his campaign would be anchored on the principles of equity, justice, peace and progress, stressing that sustainable development could only thrive where fairness, inclusion and peace exist across communities.

The PDP candidate said his years of experience in business, enterprise development and the oil and gas sector had prepared him for responsive and people-oriented leadership in public service.

According to him, the people of Ogun East deserve more than ceremonial representation, adding that his ambition is to establish a senatorial office that remains accessible and connected to the people at all times.

“I might not be able to resolve all issues, but I promise to respond to all. The people of Ogun East deserve a Senator who listens, engages, and remains accessible,” he added.

As part of his plans, Omotayo disclosed that he would establish technologically-enabled constituency representative offices across the district to ensure residents can easily communicate their concerns and receive prompt feedback regardless of their location.

The Ogun East Senatorial District comprises nine local government areas and 1,555 polling units across Ijebu, Remo and Ogun Waterside communities.

He also pledged to run an issue-based, peaceful and inclusive campaign that would give equal attention and respect to all parts of the district.

“This campaign will not be defined by division, bitterness, or exclusion. It will be defined by unity, inclusion, development, and genuine service to the people,” he said.

The campaign organisation further reiterated its commitment to youth inclusion, community engagement and increased participation of first-time voters and young people in the democratic process across Ogun East.
