Peacemaker struck to death with pestle while trying to stop fight between couple in Aba

A man identified as Ogbonna was arrested for k!lling his neighbour in Aba, Abia State.

Human rights activist, comrade Ochiegbu Marvelous, who disclosed this in a Facebook post on Friday, May 8, 2026, said the deceased, Onyema, had intervened in a domestic dispute between Ogbonna and his wife.

According to Ochiegbu, Ogbonna struck Onyema with a pestle, causing him to fall unconscious.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed d3ad.

According to him, the tragic incident occurred on March 12, 2026 at Starline, Ogbor Hill area of Aba.

“On 12th March 2026, a tragic incident occurred at Starline, Ogbor Hill, Aba, involving Mr. Ogbonna and his wife during a domestic dispute (Husband
And Wife fight,” he wrote.

“According to an eyewitness, Late Mr. Onyema, who was their neighbor, intervened in an effort to separate the fight and restore peace between the couple.

“During the altercation, Mr. Ogbonna, who was allegedly holding a pestle and acting out of anger, reportedly attempted to attack his wife.

“In the process, he turned on Mr. Onyema and struck him on the neck with the pestle.

“Mr. Onyema was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed d3ad by the doctor.

“Following prompt intervention and professional handling of the case by Comrade Ochiegbu Marvelous SD Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation Abia State Chapter and team Mr. Ogbonna was arrested and handed over to Azuka Police Division.

“The case was later transferred to the State SCID Abia State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

“This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of violence and uncontrolled anger.

“Late Mr. Onyema lost his life while attempting to make peace.

“The suspect remains in police custody pending the outcome of investigations. We will follow up.
