The Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has appointed a 13-member interim National Working Committee for the party.

Wabara said the move was taken in line with the PDP constitution, insisting that the Supreme Court judgment which upheld the nullification of the Ibadan Convention created a leadership vacuum within the party.

This decision was taken at the a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held by the Tanimu Turaki bloc of the PDP at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

Prominent party stakeholders who attended the Monday NEC meeting include Governor Seyi Makinde, former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki, former Governor of Niger State Babangida Muazu, former Minister of Information Professor Jerry Gana, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and former Minister of Women Affairs Zainab Maina, among others.

The group also maintained that the Abuja convention which produced the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee of the PDP is null and void.

In line with the PDP constitution, they insisted that a caretaker committee be established whenever there is a leadership vacuum and urged the Board of Trustees, led by Adolphus Wabara, to carry out that responsibility, which the board eventually did.

Supreme Court Ruling

On Thursday, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki-led National Working Committee which was constituted at the Ibadan convention.

Delivering the majority judgment on Thursday, Justice Stephen held that the national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, last year, was in defiance of an existing judgment of the Federal High Court, delivered by Justice James Omotosho.

‘No More Factions’

Following the Supreme Court ruling, Nyesom Wike who is the leader of the other group, declared an end to factionalism in the PDP.

‎Speaking at his Abuja residence shortly after the judgment on Thursday, Wike told reporters that the Supreme Court decision has settled the matter once and for all.

‎”The Supreme Court judgment has now made it known there is only one PDP, and we no longer hear faction,” Wike declared. “Faction does not exist any longer in the Peoples Democratic Party.”

The FCT minister reaffirmed that the convention of the Abdulrahman-led group remains valid.

That convention, held in March 2026 and backed by Wike’s camp, re-elected Abdulrahman Mohammed and other members of the National Working Committee.
