Gunmen have attacked a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing three police officers and leaving several others critically injured in the early hours of Saturday.

The assault, which has heightened fresh security concerns in the state, was confirmed by the Kwara State Police Command through its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

In a statement issued shortly after the incident, Ejire-Adeyemi said the attackers stormed the facility under the cover of darkness, engaging officers on duty in a violent confrontation that resulted in casualties.

She described the incident as a “heinous and cowardly act,” noting that the slain officers died while defending their post and ensuring the safety of residents in the area.

According to the police, the wounded officers are currently receiving medical treatment at undisclosed facilities, with efforts ongoing to stabilise their conditions.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the development.

“The Command received with deep sadness the report of a deadly attack on the PMF Camp at Tenebo Village, Kaiama LGA, which occurred in the early hours of today, May 2, 2026,” the statement read.

“The fallen officers paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, bravely standing to defend the safety and security of our communities. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Ejire-Adeyemi added that the police command has launched a coordinated manhunt to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

She assured residents that all operational, intelligence, and tactical resources available to the command have been deployed to track down the perpetrators.

“The Commissioner of Police has vowed that there will be no hiding place for the attackers, as the Command remains resolute in bringing them to justice,” she said.

The police also extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officers, pledging continued support during their time of grief.

Residents of Tenebo and surrounding communities were said to have been thrown into panic following the sound of gunfire, which reportedly lasted for several minutes.

Some locals, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers appeared heavily armed and operated with a high level of coordination.

Security analysts have warned that the incident underscores growing threats in parts of Kwara North, particularly in border communities where criminal elements have been active.

The latest attack comes just days after a similar security breach in the same local government area, where three soldiers of the Nigerian Army were killed during an assault on a military base in Kemanji community.

The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns over the increasing boldness of armed groups targeting security formations in the region.

Authorities have, however, reassured the public that measures are being intensified to prevent further attacks and restore confidence in the safety of lives and property.

The Kwara State Police Command urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative, while encouraging them to provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.

As security operatives intensify efforts to track down the assailants, residents and stakeholders continue to call for reinforced security presence across vulnerable communities in the state.
