The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified a coordinated security operation involving the Cross River State Police Command and the Nigerian Navy to rescue victims abducted during a recent pirate attack along the Calabar–Oron waterways.
Authorities confirmed that a combined deployment of marine, tactical, and intelligence assets is currently underway across the waterways and adjoining creeks to track down the attackers and secure the release of those held captive.
The operation follows a directive from the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6, Auwal Musa Mohammed, mandating sustained, intelligence-led enforcement actions in the affected maritime corridor.
Acting on the directive, the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered coordinated patrols, surveillance missions, and targeted raids on identified criminal hideouts.
Police authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of all abducted victims and the arrest of those responsible, warning that security agencies will pursue the perpetrators relentlessly.
Residents, particularly those in riverine communities, have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives by providing credible information that could support ongoing operations.
The command stressed that efforts are ongoing to restore security and public confidence along the waterways, declaring that there will be no haven for criminal elements operating in the area
