Hundreds of youths, women and All Progressives Congress, APC, party faithful, and supporters gathered at the City Boy Movement Secretariat Opolo to witness the official inauguration of its state, senatorial and LGAs Coordinators and unveiling of the Secretariat.
Speaking during the event, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, said the movement would receive his full support to achieve its objectives, adding that empowerment programmes would be rolled out for residents across the state.
He urged members to work relentlessly to secure more than 95 percent of votes for the President in the next election.
“You have to set a very ambitious target. We shouldn’t have anything less than 95 percent votes for the re-election of the President. I will do everything to support the movement so we can achieve that,” Lokpobiri said.
Also speaking, the Director General of City Boy Movement, Hon. Francis Shoga Oluwatosin, described the turnout as unprecedented in the state’s political history. He said the movement is designed to position young people for leadership roles.
“Today, we are doing what nobody has done before. This is history in the making. The movement will position young people in leadership positions,” Oluwatosin stated.
He said President Tinubu has introduced reforms that are repositioning the country, noting that young people will be the greatest beneficiaries of the programmes and policies. “Bayelsa is a great beneficiary of the reforms of Mr. President and we are proud of it,” he added.
The State Director, His Highness Blankson Osomkime, called the gathering historic and said the group plans to reach every corner of Bayelsa and the country to “spread the gospel of Mr. President.”
“This is a movement that started in Abuja and migrated here to the state and other states. It stands as a base between the political class and others. We are to propagate government policies and programmes,” Osomkime said.
He commended Governor Douye Diri for his support since his appointment and acknowledged the Minister of Petroleum Resources for backing the movement’s activities and thanked party leaders at all levels for their synergy in working toward electoral victory.
