….Says Misdiagnosis Led to Claims, Insists Funds Were Voluntary
Nigerian relationship therapist, Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has stirred fresh controversy after declaring that she will not apologise to Nigerians for receiving donations despite later admitting she does not have cancer.
Speaking during an interview with Egungun, Blessing revealed that she generated about N13 million from public donations during the period she claimed to be battling breast cancer.
The social media personality maintained that she did nothing wrong by accepting financial support, stressing that Nigerians gave willingly out of goodwill.
“I will not apologise to Nigerians for receiving money from them,” she said, adding that she only acted based on information initially given to her by a medical professional.
Blessing explained that she had earlier been told that lumps discovered in her breast were cancerous, which prompted her emotional public disclosure.
However, she later discovered that the diagnosis was inaccurate.
She further defended her decision not to release her medical reports publicly, insisting that her health records are private and should remain confidential.
“I cannot share my medical results online because they are personal,” she stated.
The controversy began after Blessing took to social media, claiming she was battling stage 4 cancer and appealing for financial assistance. In emotional videos, she expressed fear and exhaustion, noting that she was preparing for treatment.
During an Instagram live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, she admitted that she was unsure of the exact stage of the illness and did not have a clear estimate for treatment costs, which led her to solicit funds while anticipating medical expenses.
Her statements, however, sparked widespread backlash, with critics accusing her of misleading the public.
Among those who reacted was actress Sarah Martins, who alleged that Blessing fabricated the illness as a ploy to raise money, claiming the funds were intended to support her partner’s business.
Similarly, actress Nkechi Blessing criticised the development, questioning the credibility of the relationship expert and referencing past controversies surrounding her public image.
Activist VeryDarkMan also weighed in, warning that the situation could be interpreted as fraud and demanding accountability. He disclosed that he had donated money and may seek a refund.
Despite the backlash, Blessing has remained defiant, challenging those accusing her of falsifying medical reports to provide evidence or face legal action.
In a surprising turn, support also came from the sister of IVD’s late wife, known as Mama Jazz, who donated N1 million toward the supposed treatment, emphasizing her commitment to supporting women battling cancer.
The unfolding controversy has continued to generate heated debate across social media, raising broader concerns about trust, accountability, and the ethics of public fundraising in Nigeria.
