In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026, Lafarge Africa Plc, in partnership with Leadway Health, has delivered free breast health screening services to women in Lagos.
The outreach programme, held on Thursday, March 26, at the Primary Health Care Centre Akerele, provided participants with access to vital medical checks and health education aimed at promoting early detection of breast cancer.
The initiative focused on raising awareness about breast cancer prevention, with beneficiaries receiving professional screenings, expert counselling, and guidance on maintaining regular health checks as a proactive measure.
Speaking on the effort, Lafarge Africa emphasised that empowering women extends beyond economic opportunities to safeguarding their health and wellbeing.
The company noted that bringing healthcare services closer to communities helps remove barriers that often hinder timely medical intervention.
Head of Sustainability and Sponsorship at Lafarge Africa Plc, Gabriel Pollyn, said the programme helps bridge critical gaps in access to healthcare and information, encouraging women to take ownership of their health.
He highlighted that while breast cancer remains a global concern, early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes, making awareness and regular screening essential for healthier communities.
Also speaking, Occupational Health Coordinator at Lafarge Africa, Dr. Olukemi Albert-Udoh, provided an overview of the screening process and urged participants to extend the knowledge gained to their families and communities.
On her part, Team Lead, Client Services and Wellness at Leadway Health, Dr. Atere Abisola, offered practical insights into breast cancer, educating women on what to expect during screenings and why early detection is critical.
The Supervisor for Health in Surulere Local Government Area, Adetoro Baiyewu, commended the initiative, noting that it brings life-saving information and services directly to the grassroots.
The programme forms part of Lafarge Africa’s broader commitment to women’s empowerment, aligning with its 2026 International Women’s Day theme, “The Give to Gain Blueprint: Investing in Women for Sustainable Impact.”
By integrating healthcare interventions with empowerment initiatives, Lafarge Africa Plc continues to reinforce the importance of women’s health, while promoting early detection as a key strategy in reducing the impact of breast cancer.
