Police officers fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators protesting demolitions in parts of Lagos State. According to a now-viral video on social media, the incident occurred on Wednesday at the Lagos State House of Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja.

The protesters had gathered to demand an end to forced evictions and the demolition of homes in communities across the state.

The tear gas caused panic, forcing protesters, residents, traders, and commuters to flee in different directions.

Movement around the assembly complex was disrupted as people sought safety.

The video showed that security operatives remained at the scene while the protest was temporarily dispersed.

Community leaders and displaced residents also gathered at the Ikeja Under-Bridge area to protest the ongoing demolitions and alleged forced evictions in waterfront and low-income communities, including Makoko, Owode Onirin, and Oworonshoki.

The protesters accused the Lagos State Government of carrying out demolitions without providing adequate notice, compensation, or resettlement plans for affected residents.
