A 32-year-old Odion Bello has reportedly defiled a two-year-old in Ughieda Community, South Ibie, Estako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The suspect was said to have defiled the victim—his cousin — and immediately fled the community.

Odion allegedly committed the offence on January 21 after his parents left him to look after some children.

He was said to have locked the victim and other children inside a room and fled after defiling the victim.

Narrating the incident, Ughieda Youth Chairman, Abdullahi Ibrahim, said Odion returned from Lagos last year and has been staying with the victim’s mother.

He said, “The man is from Ughieda. He has been living in Lagos. He just returned last year and has been staying with the victim’s mother.

“The little girl’s mother was not at home on the day of the incident. The mother left the girl and her brothers at home for Odion to look after.

“We learnt that after defiling the girl, he locked the children inside a room and fled. It was the children’s cries that attracted people who rescued them.

“We have been looking for the boy. We have been to where he was staying in Lagos.”

Contacted by phone, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, promised to get back to our correspondent but had yet to do so as at the time of filing this report.
