The All Progressives Congress (APC) statewide registration and Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) drive gained renewed momentum in Ogun State on Sunday as the member representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, threw his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.

Afuape led a ward-to-ward tour across his constituency as part of the APC’s ongoing statewide e-registration exercise, urging party members and supporters to prioritise voter registration and revalidate their APC membership.

Addressing party faithful at Ward 4, Abeokuta South, the lawmaker stressed that voter registration was critical to electoral success, describing it as even more important than party registration.

“Voter registration is very key—much more important than even registering as a member of the APC. When it comes to elections, what we need are voters,” he said.

Afuape described the massive turnout at the event as a strong show of confidence in the APC and President Tinubu, noting that the enthusiasm reflected public appreciation of the Federal Government’s policies and support for lawmakers.

“The support we receive from our President as members of the House of Representatives is very uncommon. We must reciprocate by mobilising our people en masse to vote for him for a second term,” he added.

On his political future, the lawmaker hinted at seeking re-election but said the final decision rested with God and the will of the people.

“I hope to return to the National Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives. That will be determined by God and my people. From what I see today, my people have spoken, and now we take it to God in prayer,” Afuape said.

He expressed gratitude to party members and constituents for their overwhelming support, describing the show of love as “unquantifiable and uncommon.”

“If people don’t believe in you, they won’t come out like this. What I’m seeing today shows that the people still believe in what we are doing,” he noted.

Afuape also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as purposeful and impactful leadership in Ogun State.

Reacting to the exercise, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Dr Kehinde Ololade, lauded Afuape’s grassroots mobilisation and empowerment efforts, describing them as vital to the party’s growth.

Dr Ololade urged eligible residents, especially those who had relocated, changed jobs, or misplaced their PVCs, to take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise.

“Those who have changed locations, jobs, or have issues with their voter registration should seize this opportunity to register or update their PVCs,” he advised.
