The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Ogun State Chapter, has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what it described as his unwavering commitment to educational development and teachers’ welfare in the state.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the union said the recent appointment of two Principals-General and the elevation of senior education administrators demonstrated sincerity of purpose and responsive leadership in governance.

Speaking through its State Chairman, Comrade Dr Felix Oluwaseun Agbesanwa, ASUSS said the appointments had further strengthened leadership in public secondary schools across Ogun State.

“The recent appointments clearly reflect Governor Dapo Abiodun’s faithfulness in keeping to his words and his resolve to strengthen leadership in our secondary schools,” Agbesanwa said.

The union specifically congratulated Mr Matthew Adeyinka Osilesi, appointed as Principal-General for the Remo Division, and Mr Yakubu Olorunyomi Lamidi, appointed Principal-General for the Ijebu Division, describing their elevation as well deserved.

“These appointments have renewed confidence among teachers and reaffirmed professionalism within the secondary education system in Ogun State,” the ASUSS chairman added.

ASUSS also celebrated the elevation of the Director of Administration and Supply at the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr Akintomiwa Oluwagbeminiyi Osibodu, to the position of Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State civil service.

According to the union, the appointment was a recognition of dedication, competence, and loyalty to public service.

“This recognition is a testimony to diligence and commitment, and it serves as motivation to teachers and education administrators across the state,” Agbesanwa stated.

Speaking on behalf of over 10,000 secondary school teachers in the state, ASUSS pledged its continued loyalty and support to the Abiodun-led administration.

“Governor Abiodun’s teacher-friendly posture has restored hope and dignity to the teaching profession in Ogun State. We assure His Excellency of our total support at all times,” the union said.

The statement also commended the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, and the Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, for ensuring that teachers’ voices are heard within the administration.

ASUSS further congratulated all newly sworn-in appointees who took office on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, urging them to lead with humility and accountability.

“Leadership is given by God, not man. Appointees must therefore serve with compassion, fairness, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people,” the union advised.

Special commendation was given to the TESCOM Chairman, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, under whose leadership three education officers were elevated in the latest round of appointments.

“We assure the TESCOM Chairman of our continuous cooperation and partnership in strengthening secondary education delivery in Ogun State,” ASUSS said.

On the ongoing teachers’ redistribution exercise, the union appealed for a humane and professional approach.

“Redistribution should be carried out with empathy and understanding, not with threats or coercion, in order to sustain industrial harmony and productivity in our schools,” Agbesanwa warned.

Reaffirming its position as the legitimate voice of secondary school teachers in Ogun State, ASUSS called for sustained engagement with TESCOM in advancing educational excellence.

The union concluded by reiterating its appreciation to Governor Abiodun, stressing that teachers in the state remain resolutely behind the present administration.
