…vows to dislodge APC in 2027

The Labour Party (LP) has declared its determination to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led government in the 2027 general elections, accusing the administration of worsening economic hardship and insecurity across the country.

Speaking in Abeokuta during a sensitization meeting with party members, the Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, said the party had resolved its internal crises and now operates as a united political family.

He dismissed contrary claims as mere distractions that would not derail LP’s preparations for the next electoral cycle.

Olorunfemi urged Nigerian workers to join the Labour Party, saying they have constitutional freedom to belong to any political party and even hold party offices, provided they resign or obtain a leave of absence before contesting elective positions.

As part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of its December ward, local government and state congresses, the LP announced key appointments. Former National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, was named Acting Vice Chairman for the Southwest, while former factional chairman, Lamidi Apapa, was appointed a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT)—a move Olorunfemi said reflects the party’s ongoing reconciliation process.

He reaffirmed that the party is firmly under the leadership of Julius Abure, adding that a Supreme Court judgment has reinforced the principle that issues of party leadership are internal matters and not subject to judicial intervention.

“The Supreme Court has affirmed that no law bars civil servants from joining political parties. They can even hold party positions, but must resign or take a leave of absence before contesting elections. The LP is open to all workers who want to help rescue the country from the hardship imposed by the APC-led government,” he said.

In his remarks, Arabambi thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work with stakeholders to strengthen the party’s structure in the Southwest.

He criticised the administration of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun as “incompetent,” promising that an LP-led government would provide transparent and people-focused governance.
