Nobody broke my heart; nobody can break my heart. I can only get disappointed,” Veteran Actor Dele Odule

Veteran Nollywood actor Dele Odule has set the record straight about reports that he was heartbroken by a young female student, saying the viral claim was completely misinterpreted.

In a recent interview with Punch, the respected actor said people took his motivational post out of context, turning it into gossip.

“Nobody broke my heart; nobody can break my heart. I can only get disappointed,” Odule said. “That disappointment can come from anyone — a friend, family member, or even my child. But heartbreak, no.”

He explained that what went viral was simply an inspirational message, not a confession.

“Someone even said it was a 200-level student. I laughed. My first daughter is a lecturer with a PhD; how can a 200-level student break my heart? That would be silly,” he said. “If I were ever to be involved with a 200-level student, she would just be a passing fancy; nothing serious.”

The veteran actor, who has been in the film industry for decades, said people now use social media to twist innocent words just to attract attention and engagement.

“People now use social media for clout and money, even at the expense of integrity,” he said. “At a time, people claimed I had 10 children with 10 women. I simply agreed; after all, it’s not a crime in Nigeria. If it’s a sin, I’ll face it when I get to heaven.”

Speaking about his remarkable acting career, Dele Odule said he doesn’t pick roles based on preference — instead, he focuses on giving his best to any role assigned to him.

“I don’t choose roles; they are chosen for me. My duty as an actor is to interpret whatever role I’m given. That’s the essence of acting,” he explained.

On maintaining healthy relationships and managing fame, the actor said experience has taught him not to argue or overreact to rumours.

“If what’s being said doesn’t harm my career, I simply say, ‘I’ve heard you,’” he said. “As long as I’m not accused of any crime, I don’t take things to heart.”

He also touched on the topic of polygamy, saying it remains part of African tradition, even though it is frowned upon in the West.

“Polygamy is part of African culture. I’m not saying everyone should do it, but if a man can responsibly care for multiple wives, why not? What I frown upon is irresponsibility,” Odule said.

The actor noted that while social media has helped promote actors and their work, it has also become a breeding ground for misinformation.

“Fame and scandal go hand in hand; you just have to make sure your image stays clean by avoiding crime. I’m not perfect, but I try to stay upright,” he concluded
