Six Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL teams and two non-league sides will be participating in the Bayelsa Pre-Season Football Tournament in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
This was contained in a statement signed by the coordinator of the tournament, Mr. Diseye Nwankwe ahead of the commencement of the tournament slated for 10th through the 16th of August, 2025 at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
The statement notes that the tournament will feature eight teams which include; Bendel Insurance, El-Kanemi Warriors, Enugu Rangers, Kun Khalifa FC of Owerri, newly promoted Warri Wolves, Bayelsa United, Prosperity Cup champions, Eternal Grace Ministry, EGM FC and Bayelsa United U-20 team.
According to the statement, arrival and draws would be on Sunday,10th while hostilities for the tournament will kick-off on Monday 11th through the 16th of August, 2025.
Mr. Nwankwe notes that the essence of the pre-season tournament was to put Bayelsa United in shape ahead of the new 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL season scheduled to kick off on 22nd of this month.
He appreciated the governor, Senator Douye Diri, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and the Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali for ensuring that Bayelsa United gets good preparation for the new season.
