AfroBasket 2024: D’Tigress beat Mali to win fifth consecutive title

Nigeria’s D’Tigress won a fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title following a 78-64 victory over Mali.

It was the seventh time Nigeria would lift the trophy.

Rena Wakama’s side extended their unbeaten streak at the Women’s AfroBasket tournament to 29 games.

The West Africans have also qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by Germany.

Three countries – Mali, South Africa and Senegal – will compete in the playoffs in March 2024 to fight for a place at the World Cup.

D’Tigress dominated the first quarter, edging out the Malians 26-21.

Both teams fought hard in the second quarter, which ended 41-41.

D’Tigress, however, showed their supremacy in the third quarter, prevailing 61-56.

In the end, Nigeria claimed the title with a 78-64 victory.
