Kemi Olunloyo missing as family hosts posthumous birthday thanksgiving for father Omololu Olunloyo

Controversial media personality Kemi Olunloyo was noticeably absent on Monday as her family marked the posthumous birthday of her late father and former Oyo State governor, Omololu Olunloyo.

The event, held as a thanksgiving ceremony, took place at Horatio Gardens within the deceased’s compound in Molete, Ibadan.

Those in attendance included Professor Bolanle Awe, Gbenga Olunloyo, Seun Abimbola, Oladipo Olasope, Gbenro Onibokun, Muyiwa Ojo, Yemi Ogunseye and Debo Adegbola.

While the family gathered in Ibadan, Kemi paid tribute to her father on Facebook, sharing a video of him with a birthday cake. She revealed that she compiled the video using previously unreleased photos and conversations.

“Today April 14th 2025 marks what would have been my father’s 90th birthday,” she wrote.

“I have prayed for his soul and begin my journey of moving on and starting my life over away from the Olunloyo family as I’ve done since 2019.”

In a lengthy caption, the 60-year-old stated that she would not be attending the burial ceremonies due to safety concerns and past traumas. “I don’t feel safe. I need to heal and not return to the toxic atmosphere I left,” she added.

Her absence comes a week after she publicly distanced herself from the family following the former governor’s death on April 6.

“I am NOT part of the Olunloyo family anymore,” she declared in a video posted to Facebook and TikTok. “I will never return to Nigeria even if my parents died.”

Kemi accused her father of emotional and physical abuse, stating that while he appeared to be a respected public figure, his private life was far different.

“My father ruined the family unit,” she claimed.

She also alleged that the late politician was deeply involved in occult practices before turning to Christianity later in life. “He was into ‘juju’ heavily. I called him out on his 80th birthday. After that, he went to Pastor Adeboye and became born-again,” she said.

Kemi further blamed the family’s breakdown on her father’s second wife, Aderonke Omololu Olunloyo, who she said influenced negative spiritual and emotional shifts in the household.

She recalled her brother Tayo’s tragic story, describing how he suffered severe brain damage during a student protest and remained disabled for over 40 years before his death in 2021.

According to her, the family failed him and stifled his potential.

Although she said she has forgiven her father, Kemi reiterated that she would not be taking part in the mourning or any other family events.

“I have forgiven all of them, but I will never forget or give them access to me again,” she wrote.
