Barely two years to the 2027 general elections, former Nigeria Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Cross River Governor, Lyel Imoke and his counterpart from Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal on Monday held a private meeting with former president Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Though the purpose of the visit was not declared to Journalists, but when asked by reporters, former Vice President Atiku said the visit was not connected to 2027 elections.

Asked what was the basis of the visit and the issues discussed with the ex – President during the about two – hour long meeting, Atiku who contested the 2023 Presidential election on the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP) said it was purely “a courtesy visit,” even as he declined to comment on Nigerian politics or 2027.

“It is a courtesy visit. I’m not going to talk about 2027 or politics. I’m not here because of 2027,” the former Vice President declared.

Attempts to make Tambuwal talked also yielded no fruit as he declined to speak with reporters.

But A source informed that the meeting is connected to ongoing coalition discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The meeting is related to the coalition talks,” the source said.

The 2023 presidential contestant arrived at the sprawling Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Abeokuta around 12.36pm quickly went to the Penthouse arm of the facility to meet his host, Obasanjo who was waiting for him for close door meeting.

He was joined in the closed – door meeting with members of his entourage, including a member of the Senate representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ahmed Ningi, former governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, Obasanjo’s personal friend, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe among others.

Atiku also visited Obasanjo in the build up to the 2023 Presidential election.
