Speaking with newsmen in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Engr. Dairo noted that series of measures are being put in place for full-scale assessment of Bus Mass Transit (BMT) vehicles, to ensure compliance with safety standards, with a view to ensuring the removal of buses that are considered unfit for purpose.

The Commissioner added that the State Government was committed to vehicle maintenance by the operators, insisting that the department of Vehicles Inspection Services (VIS) has been mandated to ensure strict compliance to guidelines on vehicle road worthiness, to prevent operational failures, explaining that any of the BMT vehicles found not complying with the certification test at the VIS test station would be declared non-road worthy.

Engr. Dairo further hinted that Government was poised to introduce new buses to replace the aging ones, pledging that the new buses would be maintained in a manner consistent with global best practices in order to guarantee the safety and comfortability of commuters.

“The safety and well-being of our people remain a top priority. We are taking decisive action to ensure that public transportation in Ogun State meets the highest standards”, Engr. Dairo stated.
