Ogun Assembly Requests Fg To Reconstruct Ebute-igbooro/ Benin Republic Road, Demands Rehabilitation Of State Hospital

Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Works to reconstruct the Ebute-Igbooro, / Oja-Odan/ Pobe International road connecting Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

The passage of the resolution followed the adoption of a motion moved by the Sponsor, who is also a member representing Yewa North II State Constituency, Hon. Wahab Haruna, seconded by Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju and support by all the lawmakers through a voice vote.

Hon. Haruna, while commending the State government for its road infrastructural drive, said that the international road was important to regional diplomacy as well as socio-economic benefits of the region.

He explained that the deplorable state of the Nigeria section of the road required a reconstruction, calling for immediate attention of the officials of the Federal Ministry of Works.

Contributing, a member representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, Hon. Babatunde Tella said having been aware of the strategic importance of the Ebute, Oja-Odan–Pobe Road as a Federal Government road leading directly to a vital border community, “this route plays a critical role as a transnational link between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

It serves as a gateway for tourism, international trade, and cross-border investments, fostering socio-economic ties and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

He stressed that the road not only a critical economic corridor but also an
enabler of regional diplomacy, tourism, and cross-border cultural exchanges.

“According to him, “the road is vital for promoting international trade, supporting tourism-driven revenue, and attracting foreign and local investments to Ogun State and beyond.

He acknowledged the commendable efforts of the State Government for the numerous road projects undertaken across the State to enhance connectivity and socio-economic development, while also appreciating the commendable efforts of the Senator representing Ogun West, Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan for championing road construction and rehabilitation projects aimed at easing socio-economic challenges within the Senatorial District.

Other lawmakers who corroborated the motion included Honourables Adegoke Adeyanju, Olakunle Sobukanla and Adebisi Oyedele underscored the benefits of the road to the nation and it neighbouring countries.

In a related development, tge Assembly has also passed a resolution calling on the State Government to urgently renovate and overhaul the State Hospital, Ode-lemo, and rehabilitate the access road leading to the hospital.

The passage of the resolution followed the motion for its adoption moved by the Sponsor, Hon. Damilare Bello, seconded by Hon. Ayodele Wasiu and supported by other lawmakers through a voice vote.

Hon. Bello called for the renovation and staffing of the health facilities to effectively deliver quality healthcare services to the people of the area.

Other Assemblymen that contributed to the debate leading to the passage of the resolution included Hon. Dickson Awolaja and Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, equally urged Government to rehabilitate and upgrade more of the State hospitals to boost health care delivery.
