The House of Representatives has initiated moves to perfect the removal of the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, FCT, Umar Danladi, for alleged misconduct.

The motion to remove the controversial official was listed on the Order Paper of the House for Tuesday.

The motion, sponsored by the Majority Leader of the House, Julius Ihonvbere, seeks Danladi’s sack as CCT chairman.

It would be recalled that the Senate had last week reached a resolution to remove Danladi.

However, the resolution by the Senate was faulted by senior lawyers.

The Senate based its resolution on Section 157 of the Constitution, whereas the removal of the CCT could only be done through Section 17(3) of the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution.

Meanwhile, the House in its own motion, cited Section 17(3) of the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution.

“By virtue of the provisions of Section 17 (3), PT 1, Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Section 22(3) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act Cap C15 LFN 2004, Mr. President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces is mandated to act on an address supported by a two-thirds majority of the Senate and House of Representatives and praying that the Chairman be so removed for misconduct,” Ihonvbere said.

Salient Times will be monitoring the process as the story is still developing
