This is even as the perpetrator is to face disciplinary actions according to the school’s code of conduct.

The development was made known by Jenny Anusiem, the President of the Federal Government Girls College Umuahia Alumnae Association, in a press release.

According to the press release, the perpetrator is in police custody, even as the incident happened on 23rd October 2024 when an altercation occurred at the school, which resulted in a physically violent fight between two students.

“The incident took place after breakfast on that fateful day, where two students fought over food issues, and one was so violent that she bit off the other’s tongue (taste bud part) and was swiftly addressed by school staff and security personnel on duty.

“Upon seeing the disturbance, school staff intervened immediately to de-escalate the situation and ensured the safety of all students present. The school administration promptly contacted the SBMC, PTA, local authorities, Federal Ministry of Education, etc., on the issue, and they are not silent on the matter.”

The Association said that it has spoken with the father of the victim and expressed deep concern regarding the incident.

It added that it is collaborating closely with the school and the law enforcement agents to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, adding that disciplinary actions are also underway in accordance with the school’s code of conduct and policies.

Speaking on the incident on Monday, the Abia State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said that the incident was reported to the police, adding that the victim was taken to Chukwuebuka Hospital.

The PPRO, who said that the incident involved two minors, stated that the investigation is ongoing.
