Ogun Local Government Service Commission Organizes Training On Life After Service For Retiring Officers

As part of its mandates to have a service that is effective and efficient in service delivery, provided by its crop of well trained and disciplined personnel, the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, on Tuesday organised a day training workshop for retiring officers in the State’s local government service.

The programme which held at “Crescent Muslim Professionals’ Hall, Leme, Abeokuta”, was to acquaint the retiring officers on how to maximally enjoy life after public service.

Speaking at the event , the Chairman of the Commission, Ms. Olubukunola Olivia Onabanjo thanked the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, for his tremendous support and encouragement that the present Commission has been receiving from his administration.

Ms. Onabanjo said the present administration places high premium on staff development, welfare and determined to ensure that wellbeing of every worker, in and out of service remain the focus of the administration and on the front burner, too.

She said the training tagged “Life after Service” for retiring personnels in the Ogun State Local Government is timely and coming at the appropriate time, when retiring officers need to plan and be financially prepared for post-retirement life.

According to the Chairman, “Not preparing early for post-retirement life has been responsible for the hardship, stress and pressure experienced by many retirees and these hamper their post-retirement human capital impact, denying the society of their valuable contributions”.

Onabanjo further stated that “life after service could be an eventful experience if one is properly prepared from both personal and financial perspective”.

She then urged all the retiring officers to retire into comfort, be more attentive and participate actively in all the topics to be discussed at the training programme, saying that, “at the end of the day, you would have been better equipped for a good lifestyle after retirement”.

The Chairman thereafter advised them, to always observe enough rest, eat good and natural foods, fruits and vegetables.

Quoting the Chairman, she said “You should not venture into any business you do not know of and be prudent in spending your retirement benefits”

In his own remark,the Director, Manpower Development and Training, Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Mrs. Taiwo Akintomide stated that the participants are very lucky to have retired top Local Governments officials as facilitators to teach them about life after service.

She went further to say that “the Commission wants you to be living a good life after retirement so that you can have a worthy and healthy retirement life.

We have people that have experienced good life after retirement that will guide you”.

While appreciating the Commission on behalf of the participants, Dr Adebola Bamgbose, the HOLGA, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government thanked the Commission for its care for their health after service and also appreciates them for organizing the training while promising that they will adapt with the current economic situation in the country after retirement.
