The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed an attack on road users along the Port Harcourt International Airport Road, Omuagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state where some commuters were abducted.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko told newsmen that three persons were involved in the ugly incident contrary to reports that eight persons were kidnapped in the attack.

SP Iringe-Koko disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has tasked tactical team Commander and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to ensure adequate security measures and to ensure that the criminals are arrested.

Report had it that suspected to be Fulani herdsmen had reportedly kidnapped about eight persons around the Port Harcourt International Airport Roundabout, Omuagwa in Rivers State.

It was gathered that the criminals had blocked the left flank of the road from the airport – few kilometres away from airport round about.

Report also had it that all the victims were moving from the airport axis to the Obiri-Ikwerre area before they were attacked by the bandits.

Salient Times also learnt that over ten cars were involved and that those who were unable to escape the scene were kidnapped.

One of the victims identified as Emmanuel Biira, who escaped the kidnap, noted that three people were whisked away from his car and that one of them was shot in the head before being taken.
