An angry mob has meted jungle justice to a victim, Sule Sakon Kano, who was set ablaze for the alleged stealing of children in Lapai town, Lapai LGA, Niger State.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon.

The town has witnessed several disappearances of young children in recent times; hence, the anger of the people of the town when the middle-aged man was reportedly caught with two girls, aged four and five.

It waa learnt the two children were sent by their parents to a nearby shop to purchase some items around 1:30 pm, at the time when people were observing the Friday prayers in Lapai.

A source from the area disclosed that before his death, the suspect reportedly admitted to having committed the crime, saying he usually sold his victims to yet-to-be-ascertained agents.

The source told our correspondent: “We have witnessed many incidences of children being missing in Lapai town without apprehending any of the criminals.

However, when the people caught this one, they decided, out of anger, to take the law into their own hands. They killed the suspect on the spot and burned his body.”

He explained that when the mission of the suspect was thwarted, he ran towards the burial ground along the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Lapai, but the mob chased, caught, and dragged him back to the centre of the town and set him ablaze before the arrival of the police.

The Niger State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the development at the time of filing this report.
