An Upper Area Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State capital, presided over by Mr Aondohemba Gwar, has committed a lawyer, Barr Iorkenger Jev, to prison for three weeks, for failing to answer a judgement debt summon.

Mr Gwar, however, said the sentence was subject to review.

According to Mr James Ahua, the judgement creditor engaged Barrister Jev to recover money for him, which he (Jev) did since August 2020 but diverted the said money to his personal use.

Efforts to dialogue with Barr Jev on how to refund the money failed.

Consequently, the Court was left with no choice, but to hand down the sentence to compel him to refund the money.
