Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Florence Okpe, said about five persons sustained varying degrees of injury in the crash that occurred late on Tuesday, May 16.

The truck, a tipper, a yellow bus, an armoured tank, a Toyota RAV4 and three motorcycles, were involved in the crash.

Okpe said the truck driver who was at top speed, lost control of the vehicle while attempting to overtake another vehicle. It crashed into other cars and subsequently plunged into the river.

The impact of the collision made the Toyota RAV4 car go up in flames, but the fire was put out with a fire extinguisher obtained from a nearby filling station.

Eight victims comprising seven male adults and one female adult were involved in the crash. Okpe added that one person was killed, while two persons were rescued unhurt.
