On Wednesday, at least 46 people were killed after gunmen attacked Umogidi community, Entekpa-Adoka, Otukpo LGA of Benue.

In a statement signed by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson, on Saturday, Buhari condemned the “use of terrorism” as a tool to settle “inter-communal conflict”.

The president directed security agencies to enhance surveillance and “immediately review the security management in affected areas”.

He also sympathised with the families of those who have been killed in attacks in parts of the state.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those murdered. The entire nation stands united in the fight against the forces of terror and evil,” he said.

The spate of killings in Benue state has attained alarming heights in recent weeks.

In February, gunmen were said to have attacked Ikobi community in Apa LGA, killing three persons.

In March, no fewer than 50 persons were allegedly killed by suspected herders who invaded communities in Kwande LGA of the state.

On Friday night, at least 30 residents were reported dead after gunmen attacked an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Guma LGA of the state.
