Ebonyi Govt To Enroll Over 50,000 Physically Challenged Persons Into Health Insurance Scheme

The Ebonyi state government has promised to enroll over fifty thousand members of persons with Disabilities into the State health insurance scheme as part of its contribution to improving their health conditions.

The Chief of staff to the Governor of Ebonyi state, Prof. Emmanuel Echiegu made the promise when he received members of Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities who came in their numbers to endorse Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term in office at the New Government House Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital.

Professor Echiegu appreciated the group for their show of love to the Governor despite their health conditions adding that all their requests will be presented before the governor.

He assured that he would lias with the governor to ensure speedy assent to the disability bill as passed by the Ebonyi state House of Assembly.

He emphasized the need for persons with Disabilities in the state to make themselves available for the enrollment into the Ebonyi state health insurance scheme, noting that the initiative was one of the ways they can benefit from the government programmes adding that there was no other ways government would attend to all their needs ones.

Earlier in his remarks ,the state chairman of Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Comrade Friday Nwovu said the body has formed political pressure group to join forces with other Ebonyians and drum support for the re-election of Governor Francis Nwifuru for the second term in office.

He affirmed that during the campaign the disabled communities will tour all the local government areas and participate fully in the process to prove to the governor that they are with him.

The group also appealed to the governor to assent to the executive bill of the persons with disabilities as passed by the State House of Assembly to enable them enjoy the full benefits attached to it as it is in other states of the federation.

Other speakers include the State Secretary of the group, Comrade Ikechukwu Umoke, the former state Chairman Comrade, Chieme Odumegwu Franklin and the Assistant state secretary, all corroborated the chairman and pleaded with the chief of staff to close ranks with the Governor to ensure speedy assent of the disability law.
