…Community leader backs businessman; ….Sunday Igboho denies involvement in ‘land grabbing’

ABEOKUTA – A brewing land dispute in Ogun State has taken a contentious turn as Mr. Ajibola Johnson, CEO of Young Agro’s Homes and Properties Limited, has again accused a sitting councilor of persistent harassment, intimidation, and illegal encroachment.
The dispute centers on a parcel of land in Imo Emulu, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. Mr. Johnson alleges that Adekunle Ajayi Lateef, the councilor representing Owode Ward 3, has used his position and external influences to forcefully claim ownership of the property.
Escalating Tensions
Speaking with journalists, Johnson claimed that the dispute, which began in 2024, has escalated despite attempts at amicable resolution.
He alleged that the councilor deployed heavy-duty equipment to clear the land without consent and has used “thugs” to maintain a presence on the site.
“He has consistently used intimidation to resist any challenge to his actions,”
Sunday Igboho and Legal Denials
The CEO also addressed reports involving Yoruba self-determination activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (popularly known as Sunday Igboho).
Johnson clarified that while there were attempts to involve the activist, he (Johnson) met with Igboho to present his title documents.
Reacting to the development, Chief Sunday Igboho distanced himself from any land-grabbing activities.
“I do not dabble into land-grabbing matters,” Igboho said. “I can, however, confirm that Mr. Johnson of Young Agro came to me with all relevant documents pertaining to the land in question.”
Further complicating the councilor’s claims, a legal practitioner, Abiodun Aboaba, denied any involvement in the transaction.
“I have not signed any document currently being flaunted,” Aboaba stated.
“The documents in question did not emanate from my chambers.”
Traditional Authority Backs CEO
The Baale of Imo Emulu, Chief Mujaidu Balogun, has thrown his weight behind the businessman, affirming the legitimacy of Johnson’s purchase.
“He owns the land and possesses all the title documents. We are unaware of any legitimate claim by Honourable Lateef, as the land was duly sold to Mr. Johnson by the community,” the traditional leader said.
Call for Justice
Mr. Johnson has called on the Ogun State Government and relevant security agencies to intervene to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
Efforts to reach Honourable Adekunle Ajayi Lateef for his reaction were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, as calls and messages to his known contact lines remained unanswered.
