However, the National Grid can only accommodate less than 60MW of the generated power.

According to Engr. Rapheal Emarievwe, Site Manager of Gbarian Generation Company Limited, the residual power is given to host communities and for internal use, saying that the plant uses methane gas obtained from nearby Shell facilities to generate electricity.

Members of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Bayelsa Chapter, led by Chairman Engr. Amalate Ann Obuebite, Ph.D FNSE, visited the plant on an enlightenment tour.

The visit aimed to provide practical experience and insight into the plant’s operations.

The site engineers explained the plant’s processes, including gas metering, pressure/temperature detection, and pipeline maintenance. They highlighted the efficient use of methane gas in generating electricity.

APWEN members, including 500-level student Ms. Blessing Ogbise, expressed delight at the practical experience gained.

Engr. Obuebite thanked the site engineers and assured that APWEN will continue to promote the study and practice of engineering among women and girls through industrial visits.
