Machine crushes man to death at Dangote Cement factory

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 25-year-old casual worker, Dare Adeleke, of Maigida Company, under Dangote Cement in Ibese area of the state.

According to information available to Salient Times, the incident was reported to the police by one Mohammed Muktar.

The report at the police post of the factory by Muktar, of the Security Department of Dangote Cement, had it that the deceased and another person at about 4:10pm on Saturday were using shovels to clean up limestone materials under rolling conveyor belts at Crushers 1 & 2.

Muktar narrated that the shovel mistakenly touched the rolling belts, which in turn picked both the shovel and the said Adeleke, crushing him before he could be removed and rushed to Jajo Clinic within the company premises for medical attention.


Upon examination at the clinic, he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command and a Superintendent of Police, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement made available to The Eagle Online on Saturday.

Sequel to the reports, Odutola stated that detectives from Imasayi Police Division visited the scene, gathered evidence with photographs and deposited the corpse at the State Hospital Mortuary, Ilaro for autopsy.

She noted that efforts are underway to contact the family of the deceased and further development will be communicated as it unfolds
