Aliyu Abdullahi, minister of state for agriculture and food security, says President Bola Tinubu is committed to improving Nigeria’s food security.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Monday, Abdullahi said the President’s vision is to “take Nigeria to a position where no man goes to bed hungry”.

The minister noted that the federal government has rolled out programmes to ensure food security in the country and improve the life of the citizens.

“As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, because food security is on the front burner in the agriculture sector; it is the mainstream of Nigeria’s economy,” Abdullahi said.

“It is expected to also play a critical role in the economy as a means of poverty alleviation and gender inclusivity.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is seriously concerned about our food security situation. Let me add that many times he would say to us his vision is for us to take Nigeria to a position where no man goes to bed hungry.”

However, food prices in Nigeria have surged sharply in the past year, contributing to widespread hardship among citizens.

The impact of the removal of the fuel subsidy in May 2023 has compounded the situation, sparking protests across the country.

Between August 1 and 11, Nigerians took to the streets in the #EndBadGovernance protests, highlighting the rising cost of living.
