The Dean, College of Environmental Sciences and management, Caleb university, Prof. Oluwole Alagbe has advocated for the constant training of Architectural Educators for them to be abreast of innovation in the profession.

Professor Alagbe who also lamented the inadequate regulatory roles and discord in the architectural profession as a major factors militating against the growth of the profession in the country, said both the practitioners and government must fashion out ways to guide against the infiltration of quacks into the profession.

~Delivering _the 9th Inaugural lecture at the Caleb university in~ imota,Lagos ,tagged ”The architect of the universe, The Bauhaus, and the future professionals: Repositioning Architectural Education In Nigeria For Global Relevance. The professor of Architect disclosed that the purpose of architectural education is to contribute to the attainment of a humane and responsive environment,

He emphasized that the globalization of the architectural profession has made it imperative for curricula of architecture in Nigeria to embrace the opportunities for necessary and visionary 24 24 change to secure and guarantee the future of architectural education and practice of the profession.

On the drafting method of manual and digital, Alagbe stated that the dynamic trends in evolution of information communication technology of 21st century are in line with the expectations of practitioners, noting that it is counterproductive to delay students from the adoption of digital media in the education trend of the digital age.

The Don revealed that repositioning architectural education in Nigeria for global relevance requires concerted efforts of all the stakeholders, adding that globalization promotes homogenization and standardization in an atmosphere of aggressive free world of the survival of the fittest in every sphere of life.

“Global competitiveness in a world where one is already disadvantaged by virtue of circumstances is a tall order but promoting an uncommon niche can lead to global relevance.”

According to him,” repositioning architectural education in Nigeria for global relevance lies in identifying architectural niches that are particular to different zones of the country and promoting them globally by blending it with modern architecture using digital tools.”.

He explained that in improving the quality of architectural education, a unified accreditation staffing requirements by the regulators is recommended to take care of this challenge, noting that the approach will promote a rich blend of core academic educators and the industry practitioners.

He affirmed that Global relevance and competitiveness of future professionals is based on the quality of candidates admitted into the programme. adding that many opted to study architecture because of subtle influences from progenitors and not because of self –convection.

“Such students find it difficult to cope in the program and eventually get frustrated, opt-out and become non-registrable and a waste of admission quota.”

Alagbe pointed out that mental health in school of architecture in Nigeria is another issue of great national concern worth of empirical findings is the investigation of architecture’s perception of employability readiness of architectural graduates in Nigeria Noting that the result of these investigation will provide empirical data useful in policy formulation and curriculum development.
